Raising future generations of healthy minds & bodies.
Raising four kids between us, with our eldest two starting school made us more conscious about their emotional well-being and feeding their minds goodness as well as their bodies. Knowing that what you feed them from when they are babies, helps make them healthy in their physical state is great but it also helps their mental health too. Not only that, but the words you speak to them becomes their inner voice, so surrounding them with positive thoughts and words becomes more and more important as they grow and for when you set them off into the big world of school. We wanted them to hear our words of encouragement, even when we aren’t with them.
That’s why we have chosen to support Place2Be as our Charity. Their ambition is for all schools to be ‘Mentally Healthy’ and provide excellent mental health support for all pupils.
- One in eight Children and young people have a diagnosable mental health problem, and may continue to have these problems into adulthood.
- 50% of those with lifetime mental health problems first experience symptoms by the age of 14 (sometimes a lot younger).
- Among teenagers, rates of depression and anxiety have increased by 70% in the last 25 years.
- NHS estimates that poor mental health costs the economy, NHS and society £105Billion a year in England.
Children are less likely to suffer from serious mental health difficulties in later life if they receive the support at an early age.
Growing evidence indicates that promoting positive mental health also improves a range of positive school outcomes, including attitudes to learning, better attendance and lower exclusion rates.
How Are We Supporting Place2Be?
On our huge learning curve of starting Little Senses Whole Foods up from scratch, a surprise for us was that simply ‘giving a percentage of your profits/sales’ isn’t actually possible until you have been trading for two years due to HMRC guidelines. So despite our efforts to want to pledge to give 5p from every pack sold to our chosen charity from day one, we had to think of another way of giving back.
That’s why, until we are able to donate a proportion of our profits, we have created our own justgiving page for our chosen charity, Place2Be and will be raising funds by running charity events throughout the year. Giving our time as well as money. Our aim is to raise £2,020 by the end of 2020. Follow us and watch this space to find our how you can get involved.
Join us on our journey to help grown future generations of healthy minds and healthy bodies by helping us exceed our target of £2,020 in 2020!
