Using frozen food for babies (and adults) makes good sense. Here’s why:

  • It’s less wasteful – Our favourite reason! Let’s face it, some days babies eat as if they’re never going to eat again. Other days? Not so much. Keeping food in the fridge with a rapidly approaching use-by date means you’re likely to throw at least some of that food away. Keep it in individual portions in the freezer and you only use what you need. Waste averted.
  • It’s free of artificial nasties. Freeze food and you swerve all the preservatives you’d otherwise need to put in the food to stop it from spoiling.
  • It’s fresh. Freezing food locks in all the goodness that would otherwise degrade over time. Your little one gets all the flavour and goodness with minimum effort on your part. Easy and guilt free in the knowledge they are still getting nutritious food. Win Win!
  • It’s convenient. You can keep the food in the freezer until the moment you need it and wham – dinner is sorted.

We’ve chosen to make Little Senses Whole Foods with organic ingredients because we believe organic food is the best choice for our health and our planet.

Jamie Oliver puts it beautifully when he says; “Every time we choose to buy an organic product, we’re voting for a better food system”. We couldn’t have put it better ourselves.

In case you’re on the fence, here are some of the reasons that make organic food an all-round better choice:

  • Organic food must meet set standards. This means its quality is assured.
  • Organic farming helps develop and maintain healthy soil for future food production.
  • Organic farms are more biodiverse and support the natural food chain.
  • Organically farmed soil stores higher levels of carbon. This helps reduce greenhouse emissions and protect our planet.
  • Organically managed soil is more resistant to droughts and floods.
  • Organic food is healthier. It contains higher levels of nutrients than non-organic foods.

Our finger foods accommodate a range of different dietary needs.

Dairy free
  • Cauliflower and chickpea falafel
  • Kale & Coriander Fishcakes
  • Spinach, Kale and Sweet Potato Bites
Egg free
  • Cauliflower and chickpea falafel
  • Cauliflower and chickpea falafel
  • None of our products contain nuts but we prepare all our food in small batches in a kitchen that contains nuts. Because of this we cannot guarantee that our food is free of traces of nut.

(Please contact us for more information about our allergy lab testing)

  • Our finger food has been made with ingredients suitable for babies and children over 7 months as stated by the NHS. It makes things a lot easier when you’re pushed for time. It contains no added salt, sugar or preservatives yet still packs a punch in flavour. In fact, we know a few adults who would happily munch away on our meals!
  • Our finger foods are nutritionally balanced and have been approved by our paediatric nutritionist Bahee Van De Bor, for babies from 7 months old.
  • Remember that you know your little one best! Only you know what type of food they are used to and if they are ready for whole foods. If you’re looking for extra information, we found these links helpful.

First off, have faith in your instincts! Each baby is different, and you know best of all what your little one needs. But because it’s helpful to have some guidelines here’s what our paediatric nutritionist, Bahee Van de Bor says:

Under 12 months*

Whilst our products are made with ingredients suitable from 7 months, you know your little one best. If you feel they are confident enough with a variety of textures and whole finger foods, 2 pieces is recommended for a meal.

*See NHS guidelines on baby-led weaning to see if your baby is ready for whole, finger foods.

12 months and older

For older babies and toddlers, 2-3 pieces is a good portion size. Dish them up with some veggies or a little extra protein on the side.

Little Senses Whole Foods baby food delivery subscription is a fortnightly delivery. Here’s how it works:

  1. Choose the number of meals you would like to receive in each delivery. You can choose 12, 9 or 6 meals to be delivered at a time. We will deliver to you your chosen number of meals, every 2 weeks on a Friday.
  2. Select the type of meals you’d like. You can choose from dairy-free, vegetarian or with fish. Tell us if your little one has any specific requirements and we’ll do our best to help.
  3. You’re in control. You can change, pause or cancel your subscription at any time which is handy if you’re going away on holiday. It’s no-commitment and hassle-free

You will receive your delivery on a Friday - we dispatch our orders on a Thursday. If you place an order on a Friday, your delivery will arrive the following Friday.

We’re a small business and this is currently the most efficient way for us to operate. As we grow we hope to be able to deliver more frequently.

Order cut off is 12pm on Wednesdays to receive that Friday. All orders placed after 12pm on Wednesdays will be delivered on the next Friday.

If you have problems on your delivery day get in touch with us and we will do our best to help. Email us at hello@littlesenseswholefoods.co.uk

We know their appetites come and go so just let us know when you’d like to press play again!

Please note the deadline for cut off is 12pm on the Wednesday before your delivery is due to arrive.

Yes you can choose how many meals you’d like delivered every 2 weeks: 6, 9 or 12. We understand different families have different requirements i.e maybe you’d prefer to cook from scratch on some days, or maybe your little one is at nursery some days, so just select the number of meals that works best for you and your family. You aren’t tied into 14 meals for 14 days if that doesn’t suit you!

Yes! Our food for babies and toddlers is a great gift for someone who has just had a new baby and needs some healthy, easy meals in the freezer to feed older siblings. It’s also a great gift for parents returning to work after parental leave or for anyone who needs little more time to themselves!

Feeling nervous about self-feeding is completely normal. It’s new for you and your little one. We found the NHS website to be an excellent source of clear and unbiased information so recommend you start there. There are also plenty of great books out there to help you. We love Baby Led Weaning, The Essential Guide and River Cottage Baby and Toddler Cookbook, which have lots of practical advice and tasty recipes the whole family can use.

In our view, any new parent should brush up on first aid.

And it’s definitely worth brushing up on baby first aid before you start baby led weaning. If nothing else, you’ll feel reassured and able to distinguish between gagging (totally normal and nothing to worry about) and choking (unusual but dangerous). You’ll also know what to do in the case of a severe allergic reaction. The British Red Cross is a useful reference.

No. Our highly effective, sustainable packaging will keep your food frozen for a full 48hours. The package will be left in a safe place and will stay frozen for the full day of delivery. We ask our delivery drivers to place the items in a safe place and not return the parcel to their depot. In an ideal situation we would ask for someone to be in to accept the delivery, so they can immediately put the food in the freezer but we understand this isn’t always possible.

We aim to minimise our impact on the planet as much as possible and so have done a lot of research into choosing the most sustainable packaging for delivery and the food itself. The industry has a really long way in creating sustainable packaging. and lets be honest, we wouldn’t be in business if it was all heading to landfill!

  • Delivery packaging – our delivery bags are reusable and biodegradable. The insulating bags are made from wool and can be reused or composted. The pure water ice packs can be reused or recycled.
  • Product packaging – frozen food must be stored in freezer-safe packaging. There is a lot of research right now into making biodegradable packaging for frozen food, but until that’s available, the best option is to package food in reusable, recyclable packaging.

Our product bags are sturdy and can be reused many times. Wash them, leave them to dry and you can use them for anything. From freezing home-made food and leftovers in handy portion sizes to storing toys, toiletries or even spare change.

The reason we are a subscription only store is because as a small business this allows us to present our offering in the best way. * Only you will know what texture your baby is used to and whether they are ready for whole foods. See NHS guidelines on baby-led weaning to see if your baby is ready for whole, finger foods.

Yes you can.
